Overseas Pakistanis' cases to be heard on fast track: LHC CJ

LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Wednesday said that cases of overseas Pakistanis would be heard on fast track.

Talking to a delegation of Overseas Pakistanis Commission (OPC) headed by its Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti here, he adumberated that 790 overseas Pakistani cases pending in District Courts would be decided expeditiously.

He further observed that overseas Pakistanis may get benefit of recently launched mobile application by LHC for knowing the updates of their cases.

OPC Commissioner Afzal Bhatti expressed gratitude and lauded the cooperation extended by the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court regarding early disposal of pending court cases of Overseas Pakistanis.

He further said that instructions to the subordinate judiciary regarding quick disposal of the cases had provided substantial relief to expatriate Pakistanis as they came to Pakistan for a shorter period of time and could not continue pursuing their cases due to paucity of time.

He appreciated the designation of special courts for expatriate Pakistanis at district level and said, "It is a major development regarding swift decesions of under trial cases."

The Commissioner also apprised the meeting about the performance of OPC and steps being taken for early redressal of the complaints of Overseas Pakistanis.

Registrar Lahore High Court Syed Khurshid Anwar Rizvi, DG District Judiciary Muhammad Akmal, Principal Staff Officer to CJ Shahid Shafi as well as DG OPC, Director legal and Addl. DG of the commission were also present in the meeting.
