ISLAMABAD - Foreign Office has said that its diplomacy index remained successful in achieving foreign policy objectives despite many confronting challenges including shortage of resources and human resources.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudhry told The Nation yesterday that the most recent “Mission Palestine” jointly conducted by Pakistan and OIC, culminated in bringing the ceasefire between Palestinians and Israelis which was indeed a big diplomatic success for Pakistan and Ummah. “This success in the Palestine crisis shows Pakistani diplomacy did work,” he asserted, adding that Pakistan would continue to raise the issue of Palestine on international forums.

The spokesman said by highlighting the Palestine conflict Pakistan did not forget the issue of Jammu and Kashmir. “Since 5th August 2019 illegal action by Indian government on Jammu and Kashmir got unprecedented coverage in global media, the issue got highlighted at the UN Security Council, UNGA and UNHRC,” the spokesman asserted.

He said Pakistan played the role of a responsible state in South Asia at a time when tension was all high due to the irresponsible attitude of India. “India was exposed at all global forums as far as its illegal action on IIOJK was concern,” the spokesman said. He termed the ceasefire at LoC a good sign with the hope things would move forward.

“The year 2020-21 was most challenging for Foreign Office and its diplomatic missions abroad as far as Covid pandemic was concerned, however, Pakistani missions abroad performed very well by serving the Pakistani community,” the spokesperson said. He also said Pakistani missions world over were directed to serve the Pakistanis with priority and full attention, which was done.

The spokesperson said it was a big challenge for Pakistani missions but they served the community and won their confidence. However, he said there have been complaints by overseas Pakistanis which were also addressed timely.
