KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Sindh, General Secretary and party's parliamentary leader in the Sindh Assembly, Haleem Adil Sheikh, demanded formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe corruption done in the province during the last 11 years.
Addressing a press conference here at the Sindh Assembly, the PTI leader said investigations should be initiated against bureaucrats having costly properties and lavish life style.
Haleem Adil Sheikh said loot and plunder had affected the common man in Sindh as taxpayers' money was embezzled. Embezzlement of national resources in Sindh had led to an increase in poverty and deprivation for the people, he added.
The PTI leader said mega corruption of billions of rupees had already been unearthed. The people had now seen the real faces of those who had looted and plundered the provincial budget. RO (reverse osmosis) plants of Manchar Lake had been non-functional for a long time, he added.
He alleged that districts in Sindh were given by the rulers to their corrupt cronies on contract. The embezzled money was hidden in fake bank accounts of rickshaw drivers and ice candy men.
He said mega corruption was done in Gorakh Hill project and a probe into the scam was underway. The Thar Coal project was another story of corruption whose cost had risen to over Rs 40 billion from Rs 9 billion in three years, he added.
He said the RO plants in Thar had devoured billions of rupees and were still non-functional. Corruption on large scale was committed in RO plants, he added.
The PTI leader questioned where was Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari when corruption money was being deposited in fake bank accounts . When corruption was being committed in Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah was running the provincial finance department, he added.
He alleged that nothing had been done improve conditions in Larkana. There were no ventilators at hospitals in Tharparkar, he added.
