ISLAMABAD – PTI government announced enforcement of single curriculumacross public, private schools and madrassas in Pakistan.

Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Shafqat Mehmood, said that the federal government will soon enact a uniform curriculumthroughout the country.

A uniform education system will end inconsistency between public, privateschools and madrassahs is the top priority of the incumbent government.

According to Shafqat Mehmood, different curriculums have divided thecountry’s youth and only a uniform curriculum will unite them.

While addressing a seminar organized by Sindh Madressatul Islam Universityin connection to Quaid-e-Azam’s 144th birthday, the Education Minister said:

There are different systems of education in the country. Therefore, thegovernment intends to introduce a uniform curriculum. These differentsystems of education have divided the country’s philosophy; a uniformsyllabus will end this condition.

Shafqat Mehmood once again said that the uniform curriculum will befinalized by March 2020linkandwill come into effect from April.

We are in the process of making a unified curriculum for the children ofthe entire country, which will encompass everyone and children enrolledwith government-run or private schools or even madrassahs will be taughtonly one curriculum.

Earlier in May, the federal cabinet authorized the Ministry of Education todevise a uniform curriculum.

There are around 30,000 madrassahs in Pakistan that are managed by WifaqulMadaris. Since students of these madrassahs are imparted only religiouseducation, they are unable to appear in examinations held by Boards ofEducation. The uniform curriculum will enable madrassah students to receivethe same education as the students of public and private educationalinstitutes.

A National Curriculum Council, set up link byPrime Minister Imran Khan, is overseeing the development of the uniformcurriculum. Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training wasappointed as the Chairman of the National Curriculum Council.
