PM Imran Khan held important telephonic conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping

Pakistan and China have agreed to further strengthen bilateral economic andcommercial ties, including full realization of the potential offered by thePhase-II of the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement.

This came during a telephonic conversation between Prime Minister ImranKhan and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday.

The two leaders agreed to strengthen Pakistan-China cooperation in therelevant areas and to promote CPEC’s green development as a high qualitydemonstration of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The prime minister appreciated China’s successful containment of theCOVID-19 pandemic as well as relief and assistance measures for thedeveloping countries, including the vaccine cooperation with Pakistan.

Imran congratulated President Xi on the centenary of the Communist Party ofChina, the unprecedented victory in the Chinese people’s battle toeradicate absolute poverty, and appreciated China’s stellar development infour decades of reform.

The two leaders also felicitated each other on the important milestone of70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations betweenPakistan and China. They reviewed the entire gamut of the bilateralstrategic cooperative partnership and discussed the regional andinternational situation.

The prime minister also appreciated China’s leading role in combatingclimate change. He briefed President Xi on Pakistan’s wide ranging measuresfor climate change mitigation and adaptation, including the Ten BillionTree Tsunami initiative.

The PM lauded the successful, timely and high-quality implementation of theCPEC projects, and welcomed Chinese investments in the CPEC SpecialEconomic Zones.

He underscored that early start of work on the ML-1 railway project wouldcomplement Pakistan’s geo-economics vision for national and regionaldevelopment.

The two leaders discussed the situation in Afghanistan. They called on theinternational community to provide immediate humanitarian and economicassistance to the people of Afghanistan to alleviate their suffering,prevent instability and flight of people as well as continued engagementfor rebuilding of the country.

Imran Khan stressed the need to continue with the momentum of high-levelexchanges to further diversify “All Weather Strategic CooperativePartnership” between the two countries.

Prime Minister Khan renewed his invitation to President Xi to visitPakistan at his early convenience.
