The Afghan Taliban have imposed restrictions on trading in foreigncurrencies throughout the country, giving a 10-day deadline to switchbusinesses to the local currency. According to reports, the transitionalTaliban government in Afghanistan has banned trading in foreign currencies,including the Pakistani Rupee, in bordering areas connected to Pakistan.
The Taliban, through announcements via loudspeakers in vehicles, areinstructing traders not to engage in commerce with any foreign currency,including the Pakistani Rupee. The Taliban authorities have stated that alltraders and businesses must cease operations in foreign currencies within10 days.
Further announcements through loudspeakers have warned that strict action,including currency confiscation, will be taken against those conductingbusiness in foreign currencies after the 10-day period.
According to the report, trading is currently taking place in PakistaniRupees and US Dollars in various cities in Afghanistan.
