ANKARA – An earthquake of 5.7 magnitude shook Istanbul on Thursday, anofficial of Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute said.
The epicenter of the quake was 70 kilometers west of Istanbul in MarmaraSea, he added. Witnesses felt buildings shake in the city during thequake. So far, no loss of life or damage was reported.
On September 24, 2019, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake also struck southwest ofIstanbul, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said.The quake hit at a depth of 5.36 kilometers (3.33 miles) near the Silivridistrict, according to AFAD.
