Pakistan China decide to take strategic partnership to new heights

UNITED NATIONS – Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Tuesday held talkswith his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on the sidelines of the 73rd sessionof the UN General Assembly, pledging to make strenuous efforts to takePakistan-China strategic partnership to new heights.

During the meeting, the two leaders had an in-depth exchange of views onthe entire spectrum of bilateral relations between Pakistan and China,according to an official statement.Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan-China friendshiphas deep cultural, historical and institutional linkages.

Qureshi noted that CPEC has added a new dimension and depth to bilateralrelations between Pakistan and China. He emphasized that CPEC carriesimmense significance for Pakistan and would remain a top priority for thegovernment of Pakistan.

The Pakistani Foreign Minister also said that Prime Minister Imran Khan waslooking forward to his visit to China, for what would be his first formalofficial visit since assuming office.Foreign Minister Wang said the Chinese leadership was looking forward tothe visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He also expressed satisfaction at the robust momentum of the all weatherstrategic relationship and discussed the prospects for further expandingand strengthening cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.The two Foreign Ministers also discussed the regional situation and theprevailing strategic environment in South Asia, the statement said.Both sides noted with satisfaction their close cooperation at themultilateral fora and agreed to further augment this cooperation.

The two sides resolved to further enhance their bilateral cooperation onall political, economic and cultural and security issues, it added. – APP
