NEW DELHI – PM Narendra Modi close aide has suggested to invade Maldives inongoing crisis in order to to keep Maldives away from Pakistan and China.
BJP top leader MP Subramanian Swamy’s remarks that India should “invade”Maldives if the upcoming presidential election in the island nation wasrigged.
However the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Raveesh Kumarsaid, “The opinion expressed by Swamy in his tweet is personal. It does notreflect the views of the Government of India.”
Taking to Twitter on Friday, Swamy had said, “India should invade theMaldives if rigging of election takes place”, two days after a meeting withexiled former Maldivian president Mohamed Nasheed in Colombo.
Swamy met Nasheed in Colombo on Tuesday during which the Maldivian leaderapprised him about the political situation in his country and expressedconcerns that the September 23 presidential election may be rigged byincumbent President Abdullah Yameen. “We discussed the current politicalsituation in the Maldives, upcoming presidential elections and our concernson how President Yameen intends to rig Sept 23rd election,” Nasheed hadtweeted after the meeting.
