RAWALPINDI – Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail officers have been suspended for athree-month period for sexually harassing a fellow officer, according toauthorities.
Adiala Jail’s Assistant Superintendent (AS) Moazzam Ali along with a wardernamed Muhammad Bilal allegedly attempted to rape another warder, identifiedas Safdar.
Their suspension was ordered by the IG Adiala prison after a probe carriedout the jail’s SSP.
DIG Jail Naveed Rauf will further investigate the matter.
In 1984, the District Jail Rawalpindi was shifted to a newly constructedbuilding in Adiala village after which it was named Central Jail AdialaRawalpindi.
Originally constructed to hold 1,900 prisoners, it now houses over 6,000inmates — more than three times that its designated space can cater to.
Currently, there is a hospital and a furniture factory inside the prisonalong with an electronics workshop. For female inmates, there is avocational training centre where they are taught sewing and other craftsand skills. The inmates are paid for their work, but the remuneration ismeager.
