PM Shahbaz Sharif, CM Hamza Shahbaz seek relief from the Accountability Court

*LAHORE: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab chief minister HamzaShahbaz Sharif on Tuesday skipped proceedings of a money laundering caseagainst them in an accountability court. *

Shehbaz and his family are facing chargeslink of money laundering of billions ofrupees using accounts of their sugar mills and employees, according to theFIA.

Exemption pleas filed from Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz in the courtwere accepted. The pleas were submitted with the court through their lawyer.

Meanwhile, the court has sought arguments for granting permanent exemptionto Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz. The further hearing of the case hasbeen adjourned until September 7.

In another caselinkofmoney laundering being proceeded in a special court against the father andthe son duo, the court stated that the investigation officer (IO) to datehas not demanded the detention of accused for further investigation.

Special Judge Central – Ijaz Hassan Awan – issued a 22-page detailedverdict regarding confirmation of bails to the PM Shehbaz and CM Hamza inRs16 money laundering case.

In the written order, the Court pointed out that the investigation office(IO) to date has not mentioned in his diary that the accused were requiredto be in custody for further investigation.

The judgment read that according to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), apolitician gave Rs14 million to Shehbaz Sharif against a ticket of PakistanMuslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). “However, the agency could not provide thename of the politician to date,” it stated.
