Pakistan makes history with first ever SCO counter terror moot in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD – A three-day meeting of Legal Experts Group of ShanghaiCooperation Organization-Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure concluded inIslamabad today.

The member states discussed various proposals for enhancing regionalcooperation in countering terrorism and extremism. They also discussedadministrative and organizational matters.

The meeting deliberated upon the agenda of the 33rd Session of the Councilof SCO-RATS to be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan in October 2018.

Legal experts from eight member states, namely China, Kazakhstan,Kyrgyzstan, India, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan, as well asrepresentatives of the SCO-RATS Executive Committee participated in themeeting. The SCO-RATS, based in Tashkent, was established by the memberstates of the SCO in 2001 to combat terrorism, separatism and extremism.

The hosting of the meeting in Islamabad demonstrates Pakistan’s commitmentas a full member of SCO to the idea and working of the organization.
