KABUL – Taliban military chief in Nangarhar has been killed in an AfghanAir Force airstrike in the eastern province, the Ministry of Defense (MoD)said in a statement on Saturday .

The MoD said Afghan forces carried out an operation in Nangarhar provincein order to eliminate Gul Mohammad Sangari, the Taliban military chief, andhis hideout.

According to the MoD’s statement Sangari, along with two other fighters,was targeted in the Swati area of Surkh Road district of the province whiletrying to flee the area.

The ministry statement said that Sangari was directly involved in suicideattacks and other terrorist attacks in the province.
