The US Commission on International Religious Freedom has called fortargeted sanctions against India over the worsening religious freedom andrights abuses in the country.
In its annual report, the Commission said the state of religious freedom inIndia significantly worsened last year.
It urged the State Department to place India for the third straight year onthe US list of “countries of particular concern”.
The independent bipartisan panel pointed to numerous attacks on religiousminorities, particularly Muslims and Christians, last year, as PrimeMinister Narendra Modi’s government promoted its ideological vision of aHindu state through policies hostile to minorities.
It accused India of engaging in and tolerating systematic ongoing andegregious violations of religious freedom.
