PM Imran Khan held important meeting with IMF Chief in China

BEIJING – Prime Minister Imran Khan met the Managing Director ofInternational Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde on Friday.

The meeting came on the sidelines of Second Belt and Road Forum currentlybeing held in Beijing city of China.

The prime minister discussed the economic issues faced by the country andthe steps taken by the incumbent regime to cop up with the crisis; thepremier was accompanied by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Adviseron Finance Abdul Hafeez Sheikh and Adviser on Trade Abdul Razzaq Dawoodduring the meeting.link

On the other hand, the IMF chief took to Twitter and shared that she wasglad to meet Imran Khan.

“We discussed prospects for a comprehensive policy package andinternational financial support to help stabilize the economy of Pakistan,and also the need to strengthen governance and protect the poor,” Lagardetweeted link.

Prime Minister Imran Khan is on a four-day official trip to China to attendthe second Belt and Road Forum. Earlier in the day, he addressed the forumand called for joint efforts towards addressing impediments on the way tosustainable growth.

The prime minister said we must undertake joint efforts to mitigate theadverse impact of climate change, establish BRI tourism corridors topromote people to people and intercultural understanding, anti-corruptionoffice, poverty alleviation fund and concerted efforts to furtherliberalize trade and investment flows encouraging the private sector andbusinesses to collaborate in projects.
