Sarfaraz Ahmed, the accomplished wicketkeeper-batsman, made headlines on Wednesday, not for his usual wicketkeeping or batting skills, but for his performance in bowling during the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023 final.
The final took place at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium between his team Karachi Whites and Faisalabad. As the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023 final progressed, Karachi Whites found themselves needing only four wickets to secure a victory.
Faisalabad faced a challenging situation as they were 129-6 in pursuit of a massive target of 760 runs at the end of the fourth day's play.
Faisalabad required an additional 661 runs to win, with Captain Faheem Ashraf and Ali Asfand remaining at 15 and zero, respectively. The former Pakistan captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed, left the cricketing world surprised when he decided to take part in the bowling and fielding aspects of the match.
He even introduced himself into the bowling attack and conceded just two runs in his solitary over. During this period, Ghazi Ghouri, who was making his First-Class debut in the match, took over wicketkeeping duties from Sarfaraz Ahmed.
It's worth noting that earlier in the final, Sarfaraz Ahmed had showcased his batting skills by scoring 45 and 73 in the first and second innings, respectively.
