In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against the Netherlands at New Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell achieved the fastest World Cup century, surpassing South Africa's Aiden Markram's record of a century in 49 balls against Sri Lanka at the same venue earlier in the tournament.

Maxwell reached three figures in just 40 balls, hitting two fours and three sixes off successive deliveries against Bas de Leede before departing with a score of 106 from 44 balls, including nine fours and eight sixes.

Reflecting on his remarkable achievement, Glenn Maxwell expressed his surprise and said, "It feels pretty good. I have been pretty exhausted today, so I wasn't expecting much.

But it probably cleared my head a little bit, allowing me to go out there and perform. The situation changed when David Warner and Cameron Green got out, which led me to approach the game differently."
