China has urged international community to step up support for Afghanistan, as the country is at a critical stage of transition from chaos to governance.

Addressing a UN Security Council session, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, asked the United States to unconditionally return Afghanistan's overseas assets as soon as possible.

He said at a time when the Afghan people are most in need of resources, it is unreasonable, unjustifiable, and unacceptable to freeze their sizable overseas assets.

The Chinese envoy said since the Taliban takeover in August last year, the situation in Afghanistan has remained stable as a whole but the humanitarian and economic fields are facing the most daunting challenges.
