UNITED NATIONS: UN experts have urged India to revise its planned new legislation regarding human trafficking and ensure that it is in line with international human rights law.
In a joint statement, Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, Maria Grazia Giammarinaro and Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery, Urmila Boola expressed grave concern over the bill presented in the Indian parliament last week.
They said this new legislation is not sufficiently complemented by a human rights-based and victim-centred approach, and it risks further harming the already vulnerable individuals.
