ISLAMABAD: Four PML-N lawmakers who had recently resigned and left the party failed to appear before the Speaker of the National Assembly on Tuesday to confirm they had resigned.
Rana Qasim Noon, Khusro Bakhtiar, Tahir Cheema and Basit Bukhari were among the six South Punjab MNAs who had resigned from the NA and launched a ‘Junoobi Punjab Sooba Mahaz’ at a press conference on April 9 this year.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and the NA Secretary kept waiting for them but they didn’t show up even after the third summons.
Khusro Bakhtiar is still the head of the foreign affairs committee.
The officials said the lawmakers would be summoned again.
Background
In a major setback to the PML-N, eight MNAs and two MPAs belonging to South Punjab had parted ways with the ruling PML-N on April 9, a few months before the general elections and formed a front to what they said was renew the struggle for the creation of a separate province and set the same agenda for their election campaign.
The group is led by ex-caretaker PM Balakh Sher Mazari. APP/AFP
