ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) on Monday urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to step down after the country’s top court gave its decision in the Panamagate case.

In a statement, Pakistan Bar Council Vice Chairman Ahsen Bhoon said that after the verdict announced by the Supreme Court in the Panama leaks case, Nawaz Sharif had lost moral justification to remain as chief executive of the country, hence he should immediately relinquish the slot.

As all the judges of the top court of the country in their separate notes referred to the corruption of the prime minister and his family, “such people have no justification to further remain in politics”, he said.

The PBC vice chairman demanded that the learned judges of the apex court should approve of such officials for the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) who had impeccable character and did not accept any pressure.

He further said that after the verdict, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman should also tender his resignation immediately.
