ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Mudassir Tipu has announced that Islamabad and Tehran are very close to concluding a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, describing the negotiations as being in the final stages.
Speaking in Tehran, the ambassador revealed that Iranian authorities believe a renewed escalation with Israel remains a distinct possibility in the coming months, prompting heightened strategic caution.
He emphasised that Iran will under no circumstances align itself with any Indian-backed initiatives involving the Afghan Taliban, underscoring Tehran’s firm rejection of New Delhi’s regional manoeuvres.
The development comes amid growing economic cooperation between Pakistan and Iran, with both sides eager to boost bilateral trade volume that currently stands below potential.
Diplomatic sources indicate the FTA could be signed early next year, provided technical and tariff issues are resolved soon.
