ISLAMABAD: A Qatar Airways flight en route from Doha to Islamabad made anunscheduled emergency landing in Muscat on Monday after a passengersuddenly fell seriously ill onboard, aviation sources confirmed.
The aircraft, operating as flight QR-614, was cruising over the Arabian Seawhen the crew declared a medical emergency and requested priority diversionto the nearest suitable airport.
According to flight tracking data, the Boeing 787-8 diverted to MuscatInternational Airport shortly after midnight and landed safely atapproximately 00:45 local time.Medical teams were waiting on the tarmac andthe affected passenger was immediately transferred to a local hospital forurgent treatment. The passenger’s condition has been described as criticalbut stable.
The remaining 238 passengers and crew members remained onboard while groundstaff arranged refuelling and necessary clearances. No other medicalincidents were reported.After a delay of nearly three hours, the flightresumed its journey and departed Muscat at 03:30, eventually touching downat Islamabad International Airport at 06:15, over five hours behindschedule.
Qatar Airways issued a brief statement expressing regret for theinconvenience and emphasising that the safety and well-being of passengersremained the airline’s highest priority.
The incident marks the second medical diversion involving a Doha-Islamabadsector this month, highlighting growing concerns about in-flight healthemergencies on long-haul routes.
