ISLAMABAD: Authorities in Bengaluru have formally charged a 60-year-oldpilot of a private Indian airline with rape following allegations by a26-year-old air hostess that he sexually assaulted her in a luxury hotelroom last week.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of November 18 after thecrew completed a chartered flight from Hyderabad and Puttaparthi andchecked into a five-star hotel ahead of their return journey the nextmorning.According to the complainant, pilot Rohit Saran invited her outsidehis room for a cigarette break and then allegedly dragged her inside andassaulted her despite her resistance.
The woman managed to escape shortly afterwards and remained in severedistress throughout the return flight to Hyderabad two days later. Uponreaching Hyderabad on November 20, she immediately informed the airlinemanagement and lodged a zero FIR, which allows registration of complaintsirrespective of jurisdiction.
The case has now been transferred to Halasuru Police Station in Bengaluruwhere a formal FIR has been registered under relevant sections of theBharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the new criminal code that replaced the IndianPenal Code.
