Faiz Hameed Court Martial: DG ISPR breaks silence over the rumoured issue

ISLAMABAD: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry on Tuesday termed thecourt-martial of former Inter-Services Intelligence chief Lt Gen (retd)Faiz Hameed a purely legal and judicial process, urging media and public torefrain from unnecessary speculation.

Addressing senior journalists during a briefing, the military spokesmanemphasised that any decision emerging from the court-martial proceedingswould be promptly shared with the media once finalised.

When questioned about recent military actions inside Afghanistan, Lt GenChaudhry stated that Pakistan always openly announces its operationswhenever strikes are conducted across the border.

He maintained that terrorist networks could not operate without localfacilitation, adding that joint civil-military committees were activelyworking to counter terrorism under the National Action Plan framework.

The DG ISPR highlighted that the Balochistan government was fullyimplementing the National Action Plan and taking concrete measures againstelements involved in economic sabotage in the province.

He revealed that military representatives were part of variousanti-terrorism committees, working in close coordination with provincialauthorities to eliminate safe havens and support structures for militantgroups.

Lt Gen Chaudhry reiterated that speculation regarding the ongoingcourt-martial of Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed must be avoided as the matterremained sub-judice under military justice system.

The briefing comes amid heightened focus on internal accountabilitymeasures within the armed forces following corruption allegations againstthe former intelligence chief.
