In a first, 1320 MW power project completed in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD – The 1,320 megawatt (MW) power plant, located in Hub,Balochistan, reached its Commercial Operations Date (COD), announced in ajoint statement by China Power Hub Generation Company (CPHGC) and GeneralElectric (GE).

Construction of the CPHGC Power Plant at Hub, a joint venture of ChinaPower International Holding Limited (CPIH) with Pakistan’s Hub PowerCompany (HUBCO), began in March 2017 and realized an impressive milestoneearlier this year by synchronizing 660MW to the grid three months ahead ofschedule, just 27 months after the project received notice to proceed.

The project will help Pakistan diversify its energy mix allowing asignificant reduction in the cost of electricity generation in Pakistan. Itis one of the infrastructure ventures supported under the China PakistanEconomic Corridor, a large development megaproject that aims to connectGwadar Port in southern Pakistan to Xinjiang, China’s northwesternautonomous region, through transportation and energy networks, read astatement on the GE website.

“We are proud to deliver this project with agile execution and completedthis work in cooperation with GE on schedule and on budget,” said CPHGC CEOZhao Yonggang in a statement.

“We are excited that this landmark project will play a significant role inhelping Pakistan to deliver on its energy mix ambitions and help to tacklethe electricity shortfall that is hindering Pakistan’s progress.”
