In Rawalpindi, an esteemed gathering led by Dr. Azad Marshall, who servesas the Moderator and President of the Bishops within the Church of Pakistanand also holds the position of Bishop of Raiwind, convened to meet with theChief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir. This notabledelegation consisted of 13 prominent members from the Christian Community,and the meeting took place at the General Headquarters, as reported by ARYNews through the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on a Monday.
The discussion during this significant meeting spanned a wide array oftopics that pertain to both the mutual interests of the attendees and thebroader themes of religious and inter-faith harmony. ISPR, in a pressstatement, highlighted the importance of these dialogues in fosteringunderstanding and unity among different religious groups in Pakistan.
General Syed Asim Munir, the COAS, took this opportunity to express hisadmiration for the invaluable contributions made by the Pakistani ChristianCommunity to the nation’s development. He particularly praised theirefforts in advancing the causes of quality education, healthcare, andphilanthropic services. Furthermore, the COAS acknowledged the Christiancommunity’s outstanding role in defending the motherland.
General Munir underscored the significance of promoting interfaith harmonyin Pakistani society, aligning it with the vision of a united andprogressive Pakistan set forth by the nation’s founder, Quaid-e-Azam. Heemphasized that Islam is a religion of peace, and there is no room forintolerance or extremism within Islam or the broader society. The COASasserted that civilized societies cannot tolerate individuals taking thelaw into their own hands.
In a show of mutual appreciation, the Christian Community members alsorecognized the Pakistan Army’s relentless efforts in combating terrorismand ensuring a secure environment for the country’s minority communities.This meeting symbolized a collective commitment to fostering unity,understanding, and peace within Pakistan, transcending religious boundariesfor the betterment of the nation as a whole.
