The CJPdelivered these significant remarks during a pivotal land transfer case,emphasizing the imperative need to eradicate the concept of adjournmentsfrom judicial proceedings.
Justice Isa highlighted the pressing issue of an extensive backlog of casesawaiting resolution in the Supreme Court. To address this, he outlined arevised approach, asserting that parties involved in any case will bepromptly served a notice during the initial hearing, with the verdictsubsequently delivered at the next session. This streamlined approach aimsto expedite the judicial process and curb the tendency to unnecessarilydelay cases.
Furthermore, the CJP used this particular case as a clarion call to conveya resolute message: the era of case adjournments has come to a close. Heobserved that in some other courts, extensions of time are frequentlygranted for the submission of documents, contributing to prolongedlitigation. Justice Isa underscored that the Supreme Court, as the apexjudicial authority, already possesses comprehensive records of all casejudgments, making adjournments a superfluous practice in its proceedings.
