ISLAMABAD – China, the US, and other nations have taken note of the severefloods raging across the South Asian nation where tens of thousands weredisplaced after record rains.
The international community decided to provide humanitarian supplies asrecent heavy monsoon rains and subsequent floods killed more than 900people and injured nearly 1,300 others, creating a humanitarian crisis inPakistan.
Pakistan’s, all-weather friend, Beijing has decided to provide anotherbatch of emergency humanitarian supplies in flood-hit regions, a ChineseForeign Ministry spokesperson said.
The neighboring country will provide another batch of emergencyhumanitarian supplies, including thousands of tents, and the Red CrossSociety of China will provide $300,000 in emergency cash assistance to thePakistan Red Crescent Society.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken earlier reiterated to stand by theflood-ravaged country in hard times. He said $ 1 million dollars will begiven to Pakistan to build resilience against natural disasters, saying theamount is in addition to one hundred thousand dollars in immediate relief.
Meanwhile, the UN team in Pakistan said it was boosting support toPakistani authorities in the most flood-affected provinces, Balochistan andSindh.
Officials reportedly mobilized $7 million to respond to the floods andprovided 1,100 metric tons of food rations, and therapeutic feed, otherthan nutritional supplements.
UN spokesperson also confirmed providing medicines, water purificationtablets, tents, hygiene and dignity kits, new-born baby kits, besides othergoods.
Saudi Arabia sent 100 emergency relief trucks, and consignment, the thirdfrom the aid agency, Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki revealed,saying more than 70,000 people will benefit from this emergency relief.
Meanwhile, European Union also provided Rs76 million to help as thousandsremained homeless with no shelter and food.
EU’s humanitarian programs chief said the devastating floods have left atrail of destruction in South Asian nation, causing many to suffer the lossof their homes, livelihoods, and belongings.
She mentioned that funding provided by European Union will help get vitalassistance to the most vulnerable people to support them during this hardtime.
The record rains and floods have affected 2.3 million people, reportssuggest while Sindh, and Balochistan remained the two most affected regions.
