China raises a strong voice for Afghanistan at the UN Security Council

China has urged international community to step up support for Afghanistan,as the country is at a critical stage of transition from chaos togovernance.

Addressing a UN Security Council session, China’s Permanent Representativeto the United Nations, Zhang Jun, asked the United States tounconditionally return Afghanistan’s overseas assets as soon as possible.

He said at a time when the Afghan people are most in need of resources, itis unreasonable, unjustifiable, and unacceptable to freeze their sizableoverseas assets.

The Chinese envoy said since the Taliban takeover in August last year, thesituation in Afghanistan has remained stable as a whole but thehumanitarian and economic fields are facing the most daunting challenges.
