KABUL – *Ghazni police commander Mohammad Zaman on Tuesday said two membersof the Afghan National Police (ANP) were arrested on charges of plotting tosell a security check post to the Taliban. *
The two officers are from Baghlan province but were stationed in Ghazni.They had plotted to sell the check post along with ammunition and weaponsto the Taliban when we arrested them, said Mohammad Zaman.
According to the Ghazni police chief, the two officers had establishedcontact with the Taliban in Andar district and had plotted to sell thecheck post and weapons to the group for 300,000 Pakistani rupees.
“They acknowledged their ties with the Taliban, investigations are going onfrom them to find out whether some other people also coordinated with themor not,” said Zaman.
Both officers meanwhile have confessed to their crime during theinvestigations, officials said.
“We contacted the Taliban through Laghman,” said one of policemen.
Ghazni is one of the most volatile provinces in Afghanistan and Talibanhave a strong presence in some areas in the province.
Over the past few weeks, security in Ghazni’s Muqur, Dahyak, Qarabagh andAndar district have deteriorated and several battles have been reportedbetween the Taliban and Afghan security forces.
