PTI MNAs to en masse resign in case of success of No Trust Motion, paving way for new elections: Report

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Members of the NationalAssembly may resign en masse following possible success of the no-trustmotion against PM Imran Khan so that opposition leaders facing corruptioncases could not manage what Imran Khan had been denying them since cominginto power; the ‘NRO’, by amending the NAB laws, and also reverse right ofvote to overseas Pakistanis in a post-Imran scenario, highly reliablesources in the PTI told The Nation on Thursday.

The opposition parties have announced to form a coalition government at theCentre after ousting PM Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion and theywould continue until ‘necessary reforms’ are made. On the other hand, thereis a strong perception in the PTI ranks that proposed reforms would beexclusively aimed at giving relief to opposition leaders facing corruptioncases. “The en masse resignations would put pressure on the system to callfresh elections and deny opportunity to opposition parties to form agovernment at the Centre and amend the laws,” the PTI believes.

According to party sources, the allies and the JKT group would also bepolitely conveyed that they would get nothing out of opposition’s promisesif the PTI government is ousted. The PTI thinks that the allies may fallprey to opposition’s offer of Punjab CM slot and may support the oppositionon no-confidence motion. The main ally party in Punjab and JKT group havebeen demanding of the PTI the Punjab Chief Minister slot in return fortheir support to the government in no-confidence motion. However, the PTIseems in no mood to offer the slot.

According to a source in the PTI, “Imran Khan will never let oppositionleaders manage the NRO under the umbrella of a so-called coalitiongovernment at the Centre. The opposition leaders are on record that NABwill be their first target after they form a government at the Centre andthis is how they want to get clean chit from the courts. They also want toreverse the law granting the right of vote to overseas Pakistanis”. Theopposition parties have announced to go for economic and election reformssoon after sending the PTI government home.

The PTI believes that election reforms would be exclusively aimed atdenying right of vote to overseas Pakistanis in next general election. Background interaction with the party leaders suggests that the PTI isequally hopeful of bouncing back and coming back to power again as a resultof the next general elections after being ousted through the no-confidencevote. “The crowd in the recent public rallies of the PTI has alsoencouraged us and we are not ready to give a walk over to the oppositionparties in the next general elections,” said the source further. PM ImranKhan cannot send an advice to the President to dissolve assemblies afternotice of a resolution for a vote of no-confidence has been given in theNational Assembly against him yet he can ask the PTI MNAs to tender enmasse resignations to stir a political crisis. Article 58 of theconstitution says that the President may also dissolve the NationalAssembly in his discretion where, in his opinion a vote of no-confidencehaving been passed against the Prime Minister and no other member of theNational Assembly is likely to command the confidence of the majority ofthe members of the National Assembly. Almost having lost at theparliamentary front, the PTI has decided to take on the opposition on thepolitical front.
