Emphasizing that he had ‘good’ relations with the Chief of Army Staff(COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Fridaythat the reports of the appointment of a new army chief in April were merespeculations, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
He was speaking at the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) political committeemeeting held in Islamabad to discuss the opposition’s no-trust motion,overtures made to the PTI government’s allied parties and the party’s rallyto be held in the federal capital on Sunday (March 27, 2022).
He further said since new army chief was appointed either in July orAugust, it was premature to talk about his appointment as early as inMarch.
The premier also said he had not decided about granting extension to thecurrent COAS as yet.
Commenting on the prospects of success or failure of the opposition’sno-trust motion, PM Imran said the picture would be clear only on thevoting day. “How many MNAs show up will only be known on the ‘big day’,” headded.
