Pakistan and Turkey reaffirmed commitment to forge deeper strategic ties

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan and Turkey have reaffirmed the commitment to forgedeeper strategic ties.

This understanding came during a meeting between Chief of General StaffTurkish Armed Forces General Yasar Guler and Chairman Joint Chiefs of StaffCommittee General Nadeem Raza in Rawalpindi.

Besides security and regional issues, particularly the latest developmentsin Afghanistan, matters relating to enhancing the level and scope ofbilateral military engagements and cooperation were discussed.

On March 22, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and IslamicDevelopment Bank (IsDB) had signed the Charter of Humanitarian Trust Fundfor Afghanistan to raise donations for the people of the country sufferinga humanitarian crisis.

OIC Secretay-General Hissein Brahim Taha and President IsDB MuhammadSulaiman Al Jasser inked the charter witnessed by Foreign Minister ShahMahmood Qureshi.

The creation of the Fund was mandated by the 17th Extraordinary Session ofthe OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Islamabad on December 19, 2021.

Speaking on the occasion, Shah Mahmood Qureshi had said under the aegis ofIslamic Development Bank, the platform of OIC member countries wouldprovide humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan who had beenfacing conflict for decades.
