Federal government finalised names for top slots of ECP: Report

ISLAMABAD – Federal government proposes names for top slots of ECP, MediaReport has surfaced.

The government has finalized its names for the election commission’smembers from Sindh an Balochistan.

The issue of the nomination of the members of the Election Commission ofPakistan (ECP) was dragged due to indecisiveness of the government andopposition over the matter.

The government has sent its three nominees for each member of thecommission from Sindh and Balochistan to the Leader of the Opposition,sources said.

The government has suggested the names of Dr. Salahuddin, Mehmood Raza andRaja Amir Abbas for Balochistan, while the names of Nadeem Qureshi, AbdulRasool Memon and Justice (retd) Noor ul Haq Qureshi proposed for Sindh,sources said.

The government is waiting for the names to be proposed by the oppositionfor the two ECP slots.

Earlier, the ECP had written a letter to federal government to allocate newrepresentatives till March 13. The government told that appointments shouldbe made from Sindh and Balochistan within 45 days of the retirement of theprevious members.

The election body has been incomplete since retirement of its two memberson January 26.
