ISLAMABAD: The minister of defense has refused the provision of security toformer president Pervez Musharraf on his arrival in Pakistan saying that heis being tried in high treason case and provision of security to such kindof accused was not come in its discretion powers.
In its letter to former army chief Pervez Musharraf’s counsel, ministry ofdefence through its letter on March 20 informed him that his clientMusharraf would have to come Pakistan to face court in high treason casesand he wanted foolproof security, however it was not possible as theprovision of security to such kind of accused was not come under the powersof defence ministry.
It pertinent to mention that ex army chief has also written letter tointerior ministry seeking foolproof security on his arrival in Pakistan toface high treason cases.
The interior ministry, in contrast, on March 19 accepted the plea forsecurity from former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s upon hisreturn to Pakistan to appear before the special court in the high treasoncase.
