Tourism, Travel down by 4 billion in US since Trump took over

TEHRAN – Tourism to the United States dropped 4 percent during PresidentDonald Trump’s time in the White House, according to a report.

Travel spending has dropped by 3.3 percent, or $4.6 billion, and 40,000jobs have been lost, according to the NBC News, which cited the latest datafrom the National Travel and Tourism Office.

The US is also no longer the world’s second most popular destination forforeign travel.

Experts say Trump’s series of travel bans and some of his rhetoric couldhave had an impact on travel to the US, the network added.

Last year, for example, Tourism Economics President Adam Sacks told The NewYork Times that it’s “not a reach to say the rhetoric and policies of thisadministration are affecting sentiment around the world, creating antipathytoward the US and affecting travel behavior.”

The Los Angeles Times reported earlier this year that the US TravelAssociation is planning to start a “Visit US” initiative.
