ISLAMABAD - In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference describing the recent statement of the Governor of the territory, Satya Pal Malik, as ridiculous has said that the sacrifices of Hurriyat leaders and their kith and kin for the Kashmir cause remain unparalleled as well as unforgettable.

According to Kashmir Media Service, an APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar today said that the intention of the Governor was to defame the Hurriyat leadership and discredit them in the eyes of general masses.

The APHC spokesman said that not only Hurriyat leaders but their families have also been victims of Indian state terrorism and have faced incarcerations, torture, beatings, humiliation and even assassinations. In this regard, he pointed out, that the killing of Hurriyat leaders like Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, Maulana Showkat Ahmed Shah, Shaikh Abdul Aziz, Mir Hafeezullah and Muhammad Yousuf Nadeem at the hands of Indian forces are undeniable realities.

Meanwhile, amid unprecedented Indian military lockdown, normal life remains disturbed in the Kashmir Valley and Muslim majority areas of Jammu region for the 80th consecutive day, today.

People continue to observe complete shutdown as a mark of silent protest against the Indian occupation and revocation of the territory’s special status.

Shops and businesses establishments remain closed for most of the time while public transport is off the roads. Government offices and educational institutions have failed to attract staff and students.

According to Srinagar-based psychologists, the clampdown has led to an increase in people seeking professional help for anxiety, stress and other mental health issues.

Indian police arrested several Kashmiri youth including Abdul Kareen, brother of freedom activist Amin Butt, during the ongoing crack down operations in Dacchan and other areas of Kishtwar district. Operations are also going on in Doda, Rajouri, Ramban, Shopian, Pulwama, Islamabad, Kulgam and Ganderbal, Kupwara, Baramulla and Kupwara areas for the past three weeks.
