ISLAMABAD: (APP) Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed on Thursday told the Senate that circular debt of power sector had been capped to Rs 328 billion for the last so many years owing to steps taken by the government.
Responding to a calling attention notice on behalf of Minister for Water and Power, he said energy crisis was a serious issue in the country and the present government had taken pragmatic measures to overcome it.
He said the government was taking steps for generating more electricity but consumption was also increasing day by day.
The minister said line losses, recovery and power theft were main cause of power loadshedding adding that the government would soon overcome these issues.
He said the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) owed Rs 4.6 billion and Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Rs 8 billion to the government.
Besides launching various projects of the energy, the minister said that government was also upgrading the capacity of the grid stations as well.
Earlier speaking on the calling attention notice, Senator Shibli Faraz drew the attention of the House towards the soaring circular debt of power sector.
