Police to take full control of maintaining law and order in Sindh: CM

HYDERABAD:The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has said the time has come for the police to replace the army and rangers from their responsibilities of maintaining law and order in Sindh.

"The law and order situation has improved in the province and the time has come for the police to take control," the CM said while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a police facilitation center on Autobahn road and talking to the media here Friday.He said maintaining peace in the cities was a burden over the armed forces and the ranger, adding that they already had several other responsibilities to look after.

Shah said the police would take over the control in a phased way from the army and the rangers.The CM said a decision in that regard was taken at the last meeting of the apex committee after detailed discussions.He added that to make the replacement successful the strength of the police force would also be enhanced.

Responding to a question about holding of the Pakistan Super League final match in Karachi, the CM said all arrangements including the security had been completed.

Shah gave credit to the people of Pakistan on resumption of the international cricket in the country and expressed the wish that the PSL matches were also organized in Niaz cricket stadium in Hyderabad. CM said the facilitation centers were being established in the province initially in the divisional headquarters and that would be followed in the second phase with opening the centers in all the districts.

"With the help of these centers the trust of people over the police will restore and increase," he said.
Sindh Home Minister Suhail Anwar Siyal said the confidence of the people over the police had been resuming as the crime rate had decreased and peace had restored.

Siyal told that the Sindh government had increased the quota of jobs for the family of the martyred policemen.
The IG Sindh AD Khwaja briefed that the objective of establishing the center was to facilitate the people and to project soft image of the police force. The provincial minister Imdad Pitafi, government officials and notable citizens also attended the inaugural. APP/AFP
