President Dr Arif Alvi lands in hot waters

KARACHI - President Dr Arif Alvi lands in trouble as a petition has been accepted against his appointment in Sindh High Court.

As per the media report, The Sindh High Court (SHC) accepted on Monday a petition challenging the appointment of President Arif Alvi.

In his petition, Petitioner Azmat Rehan alleged that President Alvi had ‘tampered with court records’. He added that the president had changed his statements in the Alvia Trust case, which he was a co-trustee of. The petitioner said that Alvi had changed his statements thrice before the court.

He contended that since Alvi had allegedly tampered with the court’s records, therefore he should not be allowed to hold the office of Head of State, local media reported. The SHC accepted his petition and issued notices to the respondents.

The high court has also issued notices to the federal government as well as the Election Commission of Pakistan. The SHC has ordered the respondents to submit their replies by Jan 1.
