Pakistani top official elected as Chairman of key World Bank Committee

ISLAMABAD – The Human Resources Committee (HRC) of the World Bank Board haselected Pakistan’s executive director Shahid Ashraf Tarar as its chairmanfor a period of two years.

This development comes in the wake of Mr Tarar’s recent election by sevencountries comprising Pakistan’s constituency to represent them at the WorldBank Board as their executive director.

It is the second time in Pakistan’s long association with the World BankGroup that its executive director has been elected to chair an importantHuman Resources Committee of the World Bank Board.

The election of Mr Tarar as chairman of the Human Resources Committee isrecognition of Pakistan’s close collaboration with the World Bank. TheHuman Resources Committee is one of the five Standing Committees of theWorld Bank Board that assist the Board in the exercise of its powersassigned under the Articles of Association.
