Pakistan Army has a “distinguished history of serving humanity for peace”,said Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on the UnitedNations (UN) 76th anniversary.
The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), in a statement, extended “bestwishes” to the UN on behalf of Pakistan’s armed forces.
“Pakistan Army has distinguished history of serving humanity for peace.Sacrifices by our men bear testimony to our unwavering resolve for globalpeace in line with our founding father’s vision,” Gen Bajwa was quoted bythe military’s media wing.
After the devastation caused by World War II, representatives of 50countries gathered at the United Nations Conference on InternationalOrganisation in San Francisco, California from April 25 to June 26 1945.
During the next two months, all the country’s sat together to draft andthen sign the UN Charter that created the United Nations with hopes toprevent another world war.
The UN officially came into existence on 24 October 1945, when the charterwas ratified by China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, theUnited States and most other signatories.
The United Nations Day is observed every year on October 24 (today) as itmarks the anniversary of the day when the supranational organisation’scharter came into force.
