Shubman Gill appears poised to overtake Babar Azam as the top-ranked ODIbatsman, with the Indian opener maintaining exceptional batting formthroughout the ongoing ODI series against Australia.

In the latest ICC rankings update last Wednesday, Gill currently occupiesthe second position in the ICC rankings for ODI batsmen, boasting 814points. He is narrowly trailing behind the current leader, Babar Azam, byjust 43 rating points (857 rating points).

Since that update, Gill has delivered impressive performances, scoring 74runs off 63 balls in the first ODI against Australia on Friday and abrilliant 104-run innings from 97 balls in the second ODI on Sunday.
