India irked as Donald Trump raises Kashmir issue in talks with PM Modi

NEW YORK – India has been irked as United States President Donald Trumpraises Kashmir issue in talks with PM Narendra Modi,a topic India neverwanted to discuss calling it an internal matter.

US President Donald Trump has asked India to sit down with Pakistan andsort out Kashmir issue. US President Donald Trump said it would be greatif Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khancan “work out something”.

Trump made the remarks as he met Prime Minister Modi on the sidelines ofthe United Nations General Assembly session here.

“It will be great if they can work out something on Kashmir,” Trump said inresponse to a question, a day after he met Khan on Monday and once againoffered to mediate between Pakistan and India on the Kashmir issue if bothsides agree.

This was their fourth meeting. The two leaders earlier met on Sunday inHouston and shared the stage at ‘Howdy, Modi’ gala event.

Tensions between India and Pakistan spiked after India abrogated provisionsof Article 370 of the Constitution to revoke the special status of Jammuand Kashmir.

India’s action evoked strong reactions from Pakistan which downgradeddiplomatic ties with New Delhi and expelled the Indian Ambassador.
