ISLAMABAD – Progress Reported over the strategic Diamer Bhasha Damconstruction.
Water Resources Minister Muhammad Faisal Vawda on Wednesday presided over ameeting at WAPDA Complex to review the implementation plan of strategicallyimportant Diamer Basha Dam Project.
Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Lt Gen (r)Muzammil Hussain and WAPDA Member (Water) and Diamer-Basha Dam ProjectGeneral Manager Amir Bashir Chaudhry were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister expressed satisfaction over theproject’s progress despite the fact that Covid-19 pandemic has slowed downroutine life the world over.
Following the award of the contract last month, the activities on thisproject have been continuing at a good pace that reflects the commitment ofthe incumbent Government for construction of mega dams to avert loomingwater crisis in the country and add low-cost hydel electricity to theNational Grid, he further said.
The project’s implementation plan was also discussed in details during themeeting. The minister directed the project authorities, consultants andcontractors to adhere to the timelines specified in the plan so that theproject is completed on time.
The WAPDA chairman, dilating upon the construction schedule, briefed aboutthe major milestones of the implementation plan. He apprised the meetingthat contractors were being mobilised to the site soon after the signing ofthe contract, while construction work on the main dam would start very soon.
He added that the works for infrastructure development in the project areawere being carried out at a good pace. The chairman said that WAPDA iscommitted to completing Diamer Basha Dam Project in accordance with thestipulated timeframe.
