Pakistan Parliament all set to make history today

ISLAMABAD – The Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) Reforms Billwill be tabled in the National Assembly today (Thursday) that includes themerger of the tribal areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The government has decided to table the Fata Reforms Bill afterparliamentary leaders of all political parties have expressed theiragreement over the final draft of the bill.

Sources confirmed that the Fata Reforms Bill is likely to be tabled as the‘30th Amendment Bill, 2017’ that includes a comprehensive package andtimeline for its implementation.

According to PM’s Special Assistant on Law Zafarullah Khan, after thepassage of the amendment about 150 new laws of Pakistan would getimplemented in Fata and after the merger, all the laws of rest of Pakistanwould be effective in the tribal areas.

He further said that Frontier Crimes Regulations will be abolished and itwill be replaced with an interim governance system till the inclusion ofthe region with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the National assembly will be increasedfrom 48 to 60 after the merger of FATA. The seats for the KhyberPakhtunkhwa assembly will increase to 147 from the current 126 after itsmerger with FATA.

FATA would be provided Rs 100 billion per annum for the next ten years fordevelopment of infrastructure and brining it at par with developed areas ofthe country.
