*ISLAMABAD: European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs andSecurity Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission FedericaMogherini will arrive in Islamabad on Monday (tomorrow) to hold talks withPakistani officials on bilateral ties, trade and regional security.*
Sources said the EU high representative will meet Prime Minister Imran Khanand Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi during her visit of Islamabad.She will also hold strategic dialogue with the foreign minister.
Earlier, Ms Mogherini had spoken to FM Qureshi by phone after tensionsbetween Pakistan and Indian spiked in the aftermath of the Pulwamaincident. She has asked for urgent de-escalation of the situation.
Addressing the inaugural session of “Leaders in Islamabad Business Summit”in Islamabad on March 13, the foreign minister had expressed gratitude toEuropean Union and European Parliament for their support to Pakistan insecuring GSP Plus facility for its exports.
He said EU’s High Representative on Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini willarrive in Islamabad this month and several accords on Pak-EU strategiccooperation will be signed on the occasion.
Earlier on March 21, the fifth round of Pakistan-EU Political Dialogue wasco-chaired in Brussels by Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and DeputySecretary General of the European External Action Service Jean-ChristopheBelliard.
As per a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the twosides held detailed exchange of views on regional peace and security,various facets of bilateral relations with a particular focus on trade andinvestment.
The foreign secretary briefed the EU side on the recent volatile situationin South Asia notably the Indian aggression against Pakistan, underscoringthat it was gross violation of the international law and Pakistan had actedin self-defence with restraint.
