CJP Justice Saqib Nisar takes another suo moto notice over Punjab government

LAHORE – Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has taken suo motonotice of inflated salaries being paid to officers working in 56 companiesof Punjab.

During today’s hearing, the top judge sought details of the salaries andprivileges of the officers from Punjab Chief Secretary.

“You have handed everything to the private sector. Leave the government ifyou cannot work with diligence. We will not let the public money go waste,”remarked the Chief Justice.

The top judge also took notice of disparity in salaries of doctors deployedat government-owned health facilities, saying those called in from abroadare paid a heavy sum while the local ones are given a small amount.

During a hearing at Supreme Court’s Lahore registry, the chief justice saidthe doctors at a state-of-the-art facility of the government, such asPakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute (PKLI), gets a salary ofRs1.2 million while on the other hand, the one providing services at agovernment hospitals gets Rs0.2 million.

The chief justice said PKLI is an institute where doctors from abroad arehired inquiring what was the fault of doctors performing duties earnestlyat government hospitals.

“Chief secretary himself gets around Rs0.2 million, but those appointed byhim were getting a higher pay,” remarked the judge.
