Three consecutive suicide blasts rock Afghanistan

KABUL – Three consecutive suicide blasts rocked Helmand province in Southof Afghanistan leaving at least eleven people dead or wounded, according tothe local officials.

Two of the suicide blasts took place in the vicinity of Nad-e-Ali districtwhile one suicide blast took place in Lashkargah city, the provincialcapital of Helmand.

The provincial government media office in a statement said the first blasttook place close to the compound of the Afghan intelligence agency in 2ndpolice district of Lashkargah city after a suicide bomber detonated a minitruck with packed with explosives.

The statement further added that the suicide bomber wanted to ram thevehicle into the compound of the intelligence agency but detonated hisexplosives far from the intelligence compound after he was identified bythe security personnel.

At nine people including five school children, three civilians and oneAfghan intelligence operative were wounded in the attack, the statementadded.

Another suicide bomber who was looking to detonate a motorcycle packed withexplosives in Nad-e-Ali district was also identified by the security forcesand detonated his explosives after coming under fire.

In the meantime, another suicide bomber detonated a Humvee armoredpersonnel carrier in the same district leaving two Afghan soldiers dead,the provincial government added.

No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility behind theexplosions.
